Pocket of Pure Tranquility
Phoenix Valley is a little pocket of pure tranquility, situated just 15 minutes from the centre of Tauranga in the sunny Bay of Plenty..
The Experience
The driveway winding gently down through lush ferns and pungas is the first clue that you’re heading somewhere special when you arrive at Phoenix Valley. The luxury campsite is nestled into a fir tree forest on top of a hill looking down across the valley floor – perfectly positioned to capture views of the towering pumice cliffs, and the crystal clear stream running past the poplars lining the banks.
The campsite consists of a beautifully decorated luxury tent, cleverly designed camp kitchen and a large deck with viewing platform. A luxurious outdoor shower and bath set into the trees, complete what is truly unique and romantic accommodation.
This is glamping of the very best kind. Perfect for couples looking for a peaceful and private escape, you’ll enjoy relaxing in your king-sized bed listening to the sounds of nature… The beautiful Tau Tau stream running by, the light breeze rustling the leaves of the trees, and the gorgeous sound of birdlife. Tuis, fantails and morepork abound – not to mention resident geese, Jeffery and Jemima.
Eating & Drinking
Phoenix Valley has all the facilities you need to self-cater. Just bring your own food, and cook meals using the BBQ and gas ring. You’ll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you’ll need, and a chilly-bin and cool packs for keeping food cool.
If you want a break from cooking, Four 14 cafe – a short 5 minute car ride away – does fantastic food and coffee. There are plenty of other restaurants to choose from in Tauranga and popular vineyard, Mills Reef, offers delicious a la carte meals and wine tasting – and it’s just 10 minutes away.
Make sure you stock up on supplies before you arrive! But if you need to pop out for supplies, there is a Countdown supermarket about a 10 minute drive away.
Things to do
Phoenix Valley is a natural wonderland. Feel free to explore the valley on foot – you’ll find bush walks throughout. A short walk from the tent is a private swimming hole, get really close to nature with a skinny dip if you like! The glow worm caves at the top of the valley are amazing – and definitely worth the hike.
If you want to go further afield just jump in the car and head out to see the Tauranga area sights – McLaren and Omanawa Falls are nearby, and there are plenty of mountain biking, hiking and kayaking options offered the region. If you feel like city buzz, Tauranga with it’s shops and cafes is only a short drive away. The Tauranga Markets are on every Saturday.
Otherwise, just take the time and relax. Play one of the board games provided. Enjoy a dip in the swimming hole. Have a walk in the bush, and at the end of the day – star gaze to your hearts content in a hot steaming outdoor bathtub.
