Rimu Lodge – Hokitika
Title
Situated in the wild, rugged and majestic West Coast
Description
The wild, rugged and majestic West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island is the location of Rimu Lodge, a luxurious 5-star boutique eco-lodge retreat set above the Hokitika River between the snow-capped Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea. A place so pristine, beautiful and peaceful that you will be struck by the absolute silence and sheer majesty of your surroundings.
Rimu Lodge offers 4 casually elegant ensuite rooms. Built to take advantage of the views they feature central heating, double-glazed windows, refrigerators and tea and coffee facilities. Complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the lodge and fresh flowers in the rooms add that personal touch.
Country style cooked and continental breakfast featuring strawberries, blueberries and stone fruit from the kitchen garden. Hokitika township, just a 10-minute drive from the lodge, offers several cafes and restaurants. For visitors travelling to New Zealand in March, the annual Hokitika Wildfoods Festival is a “must do” experience.
Hokitika is an interesting town bustling with artisans working with Pounamu (greenstone), glass, gold and more. You can still pan for gold here! Excellent fly-fishing, bush walks, and just a one-hour drive from both Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. A new attraction is the West Coast Treetop Walk with its 450m steel platform built high about the ancient Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy
Your host Sue-Ellen searched far and wide to find this perfect spot, looking all over the South Island for their own slice of Kiwi paradise. Finally, on the West Coast, she found what she was looking for – an unspoilt environment with spectacular views. The lodge is designed to reflect and enhance the beauty of its location.
